Bowls
Mens Bowls
As well as getting involved in social bowls and regular Saturday sessions, the men’s club fully support our Club Championships which are hotly contested, and are keen for Pennants every year.
Our division two teams have won the Port Curtis District division two flags in 1995, 2011, 2012, 2019, 2020 & 2022. Our division one team captured District flags in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2019. In the same year, 2019, the division one team brought home the Queensland Group 6 zone flag and went on to State play-offs at Tweed Heads where they finished up in a very creditable 5th place. A great achievement for a little club.
Ladies Bowls
The Boyne Tannum Ladies Bowling Club Inc (BTLBC) is a lawn bowls club for ladies that is Associated with the Boyne Tannum Bowls Club Inc and uses the facilities and green provided by them.
In thanks, our club has and continues to support the men’s club by volunteering to provide catering for their events and donations towards expenses. We have a long history of support for Lawn Bowls and many of our members have been active on District Committees and have been President of the Port Curtis Ladies Bowling Association.
Our club has a proud history, with many of our champions going on to win the District Championship. In 2010 our Champion of Club Champions Fours team won the Zone and represented us at state level, as did our Club Pairs Champions in 2015. Our club has also done well in 1st Division Pennants, winning in 1990, 1991 and 2009.
BTLBC run three carnivals in our bowling year. The Mudcrab Fours, Two Bowl Triples (which are both one day only) and the Boyne Tannum Invitational Fours for Masters, held over two days. The Masters was started up as a bicentennial event in 1988 and we recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. As the only Masters event in our Zone, it was originally only for winners of Championship Fours, but has been opened up over the years to winners of all Championship competitions.
Our Club Play Day (Uniform Day) is on Friday Morning, with names in by 09.00 for morning tea and play starting at 09.30. Any BA affiliated player is welcome to join us for a game and anyone looking to try lawn bowls will be encouraged.
Social Bowls
At BITS all bowls are very social. However, aside from the slightly more formal Friday and Saturday sessions, we hold a Tuesday afternoon mixed casual and an occasional Thursday mixed afternoon too, depending on demand. These sessions are good fun and suitable for players of all abilities. If you are new to the game and want a gentle introduction to the art, these social days are a great place to start. During the hotter parts of summer, we switch these sessions to twilight, turn on the floodlights and enjoy an evening under the stars.
If you want to organise a game of barefoot bowls with a few friends, we are happy to help you out. Please contact the club for details.
Travelling Bowlers
The Fishos, all of whom are members of BITS, also organise away weekends to other clubs near and far. They fix up the itinerary and sort out the accommodation and transport for their members. These trips are like mini-tours and are not to be missed.
